OurRhine, july 2021

Dear OurRhine-friends,

After a long and worrisome year, now our well deserved summer is here! Hopefully a lot of visitors will visit your visitor centres during the summer holidays. From now on a newsletter in every season will keep you updated on activities and developments in the network. Feel free to send us interesting news from your center as input for one of the next newsletters!

Enjoy reading this newsletter!

Important update on Annual Meeting

Our next meeting of visitor centres will take place on 23 September 2021, unfortunately virtually again due to the ongoing pandemic– however we are looking forward to seeing you again! Further information will be announced in time.

News from the network

As you know, Marc de Rooy can no longer be the Chair the Network of Visitor Centres. We want to thank him for his vital role within the Visitor Centers Network! Jelle Kabbes from The Netherlands has temporary taken over the role of the Chair. Jelle is a member of the steering group since 2019. He is a former geography teacher, citizen science fan, educational designer, gamification expert and author of the educational material on the OurRhine website.

For the future we need a Chair on a long term base. Jelle Kabbes volunteered to continue his role as Chair. You can also apply for the role of Chair by sending an email to: laura.poinsot@iksr.de before the 20th of July 2021.

Schools

Did you know that schools often prepare their school trips at the end or the beginning of the school year? So July and August are good months to reach out to schools and show them the learning experiences which they can expect at your location.

Have you already discovered all the educational material we created in 4 languages on www.edu.ourrhine.eu?

You can send the link to this website to schools in your region! That will show your educational relevance and is very accessible for teachers and their students. A couple of those exercises are fully distance proof and can be done in school or even at home!

Activate your visitors!

You want to invite and activate your visitors to do citizen science research on biodiversity at your location? See how it works.

Live @ The Rhine

Take a look at this great livecam at the Schaffhausen Waterfalls.

Do you have a livecam near your location? Please let us know! We will upload them on OurRhine.

Your Visitor Centre in the spotlight!

In each newsletter we would like to publish a short story from a Rhine Visitor Center and make a collection of stories. Do you want to show how beautiful your site is and tell us why it’s so special? Please send us your story and a couple of pictures.

#ourrhine

As the Network of Visitor Centers we want to set the example to show that the Rhine is an international river that we all share. Let’s show our unity by using and promoting the hashtag #ourrhine with all of our social media coverage.

Best regards,

The OurRhine Steering group
